course I always disagreed on the exaltation of the Italian school here but I will not enter into the discussion (I have already ruined the liver for years) where you will learn more here or there.
One major difference, however, is represented by the structure of the training school and university in both countries.

In a nutshell, this is a system that maximizes the possibility that people occupy a place in society with an excellent fit with their talents and passions.
This does not happen in Italy. How many activities are at medium or high school, making it possible to discover and cultivate their passion and are combined with their innate characteristics? Few. How many students after graduation have chosen with full awareness of the degree course? Very few because they have enough evidence. Those, after two years of case law and finding that they hate, have the courage to drop everything and start Architecture? Very few because it is too late and end up any other alternative option to 30 years. How then do a job for which they have passion and "perfect fit"? Probably few.
This could be a major cause of the difference in performance between the two economic and social systems.
