| He disappeared last Monday, at the age nearly 85 years, Bernard Nathanson, the American doctor already militant champion of abortion (he boasted of being responsible, directly or indirectly, of 75 thousand abortions) and then starred in a sensational conversion that led him to the culture of life and to Roman Catholicism.
professed atheist and bishop of the sexual revolution of the sixties, in 1973, Nathanson began to entertain doubts of the first, encouraged by new technologies that show for the first time the reality of a real fetus in the womb. Nathanson was there that he began a remarkable transformation and became an exceptional witness of the right to life.
Famous is the documentary The Silent Scream, 1984, in which abortion is live in all its monstrosity. From that day Nathanson became a banner for the entire world, pro-life. A testimony given in all its fullness in a second documentary, Eclipse of Reason ("The Eclipse of Reason") of 1987.
In 1979 he began publishing a great book, "Aborting America " (written with Richard N. Ostling). A book published in Italian only a few weeks ago, with the same English title, edited by Piero Pirovano, with forewords by Carlo Casini and Nicola Christmas, published by Friends for Life. |
